The Best Word Scavenger Hunt at Home
School is out for the summer, and trying to find ways for my kids to have something to do is a priority. That’s when we came up with an educational word hunt.
I’m all about teaching my children fun ways to learn sight words, words out of the dictionary, and teaching my little monsters how to read and write. But, of course, if I can make a word search scavenger hunt, it’s that much cooler for them.
Easily find other ways to entertain your kids with this hilarious bigfoot game, search for bigfoot, and go on a garden scavenger hunt!

I personally used words according to my children’s ages. For example, I placed a letter on trees, and they had to come together as a team and try to figure out the word. The older children would help the younger kids, and each had a problem or word to solve.
Some words were sight words, easily do math problems, turn it into a vocabulary scavenger hunt, a word treasure hunt, or an adjective scavenger hunt. Each one has its own beneficial and educational benefits.
I personally just gave my kids directions and let them scramble and find the words. I started with simple words (again depending on ages) but simple like GO and went on to make up words, sight words, and words that could be on their spelling test.
Another suggestion is to have them spell their names or write out fun sentences. Such as, “Let’s go for ice cream!” and perhaps take them for a summer ice cream treat! Even turn it into a minute to win it game idea too.
We got a kick out of this idea, and we hope you do too! Have fun!
