What Is a Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt?

A Bigfoot scavenger hunt is exactly what it sounds like.

Someone—or SOMETHING—has been stomping around.

Before the kids arrive, create a trail of oversized Bigfoot footprints leading through your playing area.

Along the way, hide clues that suggest Sasquatch has recently been there.

Maybe there’s a giant footprint next to a tree.

Maybe some sticks have mysteriously been moved.

Maybe there’s a tuft of fake Bigfoot fur caught on a branch.

Or maybe the kids hear a suspicious Bigfoot ROAR coming from somewhere nearby.

The children follow the clues until they reach the final destination and discover what’s waiting for them.

Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt Supplies

You can make this hunt as simple or elaborate as you’d like.

Here are a few things you can use:

• Printable or homemade Bigfoot footprints
• Cardboard for making giant footprints
• Paper for clues
• Tape
• Fake fur
• Sticks and leaves
• Small Bigfoot toys
• Bigfoot stickers
• A Bigfoot costume or cutout (optional)
• Small prizes or treats
• A basket, box or container for the final surprise

You probably already have several things around the house that can become Bigfoot evidence.

And honestly?

The sillier the evidence, the better.

How to Set Up a Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt

The secret is setting everything up BEFORE the kids start searching.

Pick a starting point and decide where you want your hunt to end.

Then work backward.

Place your final surprise at the last location.

Next, create a trail of Bigfoot footprints and clues that leads players from one location to another.

You don’t need twenty clues.

For younger children, about 5–8 stops can be plenty.

Older kids may enjoy a longer hunt with trickier clues.

Make Giant Bigfoot Footprints

Bigfoot can’t exactly leave tiny footprints.

Grab some cardboard and draw a ridiculously oversized foot.

Cut it out and use it as a template.

You can trace the footprints onto paper, cardboard, or another material that works for your playing area.

Place the footprints along the ground so it looks like Bigfoot walked through your yard.

Try changing direction unexpectedly.

Have the footprints disappear behind a tree.

Maybe Bigfoot walked around the swing set.

Maybe he went toward the garage.

Maybe he somehow ended up on the porch.

Bigfoot apparently has places to be.

Look where the kids go out to play!

Find the place where flowers bloom.

Bigfoot’s getting hard to track,
Look where you might find a snack!

Final Clue

You followed each gigantic track,
But sneaky Bigfoot won’t come back!
One last place you need to see—
Your Bigfoot surprise is near a TREE!

Change the clues to match your own backyard, party space, campground, or home.

Add Bigfoot Evidence Along the Way

This is where you can make the hunt REALLY fun.

Don’t just leave clues.

Leave evidence.

Place fake fur on a tree branch.

Make a pile of sticks look like Bigfoot was building something.

Leave an oversized footprint in dirt or mud.

Put a partially eaten snack near one of the clues.

Hang a Bigfoot silhouette in the distance.

Play a Bigfoot roar from a hidden phone or Bluetooth speaker.

You could even have an adult secretly move the Bigfoot cutout during the hunt.

The kids think Bigfoot was THERE.

Then suddenly he’s somewhere else.

Turn It Into a Bigfoot Birthday Party Game

This makes an especially fun Bigfoot birthday party activity.

Start the hunt shortly after guests arrive.

Tell everyone there has been a SASQUATCH SIGHTING nearby.

Hand the kids their first clue and send them searching.

At the end of the scavenger hunt, have them discover a Bigfoot party surprise.

It could be:

• Small Sasquatch toys
• Candy
• Party favors
• Bigfoot certificates
• Temporary tattoos
• A birthday treasure box

You could even have the final clue lead everyone directly to the birthday cake!

Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt for Camping

Camping might be my FAVORITE place to do this.

You’re already surrounded by trees.

You’re outside.

And Bigfoot could obviously be hiding approximately twelve feet away at any given moment. 😂🌲

Set up giant footprints around your campsite before the kids notice.

Place clues around trees, picnic tables, tents and other safe locations.

Then announce:

GUYS. I THINK BIGFOOT WAS HERE.

And watch what happens.

For younger kids, keep it obviously playful so nobody thinks they’re actually about to be carried away by Sasquatch.

We’re going for laughs.

Not lifelong campground trauma. 😂

Indoor Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt

Bad weather?

Bring Bigfoot inside.

Place footprints through the house, classroom or party room.

Hide clues:

• Under a table
• Near a bookshelf
• Behind a couch
• By a toy box
• Near a door
• Around party decorations

Your final Bigfoot surprise could be hiding in another room.

This also works well for classrooms or indoor Bigfoot birthday parties.

Bigfoot Hunt for Younger Kids

For preschoolers and younger children, skip complicated riddles.

Use footprints instead.

Have them simply follow Bigfoot’s giant tracks from one location to another.

You can add pictures to the clues rather than requiring children to read.

And make sure Bigfoot is funny rather than frightening.

Make It Harder for Older Kids

Older kids?

They’re going to need more than giant footprints.

Give them actual puzzles.
