7 Tips For A Magical Experience To An American Girl Store
American Girl is so much more than a store! It’s a magical experience! A dream come true for little girls (and their moms!) That is why we’ve brought you 7 Tips For A Magical Experience To An American Girl Store!
I’ve recently partnered with American Girl and had the opportunity to visit the Columbus, Ohio store with my daughters, ages 7 and 12. We love to travel but this was our first time visiting the establishment. You know when you’re getting close to the store because you will see a lot of red bags with white American Girl lettering on them and happy faces!
As soon as you walk through the doors there are adorable displays showing many dolls in different situations. Some of the dolls include books with storylines that are relatable and inspirational for young girls.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you with your first experience! If you don’t have a store near you? No worries, you can check out the dolls right here online!
Tip for Your First Experience to an American Girl Store
1. Red Carrying Bags
Inside the store, there are no carts. However, they have reusable red bags large enough to help you carry dolls and any other extra accessories that you may want. In addition to this if your bag is getting to be a little too cumbersome to carry the staff can place it behind the counter for you with your little one’s name on it.
2. Bring Your Doll and Camera
There are so many fun places to take pictures of your little girl and her doll. With every turn and approaching a new display, my girls were just in awe at all the detail in each case.
3. Military Discount at American Girl Store
Yes, you heard that right. We were able to apply the military discount and use a coupon! 🙌 So if you’re a thrifty mama like me this is a huge added bonus.
4. Bistro Dining Reservation for American Girl
At the Columbus, Ohio location there is a Bistro. I highly suggest that you make a reservation prior to going. If not just stop by the hostess before you start shopping and they can put your group on a reservation if one is available. We were able to get a table but had to wait about 45 minutes. By the time we were done looking around and checking out within a few minutes, we were able to sit down.
Both of my girls had their new dolls in hand and they each got a high chair for their doll to sit at the table with them. The menu is very kid-friendly – pizza, grilled cheese, hamburgers, fresh fruit, and etc. A must try is their Blue Moon Cotton Candy milkshake, yum!
5. Earrings
My daughters really wanted to buy earrings for their dolls. I didn’t realize if we bought earrings that you couldn’t put them in yourself. What you need to do is buy a salon earring purchase at the cashier. Take the receipt over to the salon and they will do the ear-piercing for you which includes a pack of earrings. I realized this too late and it was an additional cost that we didn’t expect. However, finding out the salon is able to get those tangles out of the dolls hair and create a hairstyle experience is an extra treat to the fun time we were already having!
6. Events Calendar
American Girl is always coming up with fun events to add to the experience! Looking for events near you go here!
7. Patients are Key
Lastly, just know that there is so much to see and discover! With these 7 Tips For A Magical Experience To An American Girl Store, we hope that it will help you enjoy your time even easier. There are so many various displays of the American Girl Doll that you will have plenty to choose from while you are there. With that being said you want to make sure you have the time to look around and take in all the detailed features of the displays. Also, if your feet are getting a little tired while the kiddos are looking around there are seats placed in many locations around the store.
P.S. Some other areas of interest we thought were awesome are the “look like me” Truly Me dolls that you can get that may closely resemble your little ones. Another thing I noticed while looking at these same dolls was a feature for those children that have an unfortunate illness, you can get them without hair. I just thought this was very sweet for American Girl Doll to think about the children out there that are fighting battles that have caused them to lose their hair.
If you don’t have a store close to you. You can still order these dolls online. Go here to learn more!

Marcie,
I agree! There is so much to see and I love how the girls can interact with the toys too.

I have always wanted to take my daughter there. These are certainly great tips I needed to know. But is it terribly expensive? Can you share a bit about that too , if that’s not too much trouble please.
Cas says
Hi Aditi,
I highly recommend signing up for their mailing list or emails. The reason I say that is because I receive their magazines in the mail and included was a 20% off coupon. That helps a lot! American Girl does run promotions often and if you’re signed up for their emails the promotions will come right to your inbox. I hope that helps! 🙂 It is such a fun experience and I know it is one my girls will never forget! 🙂

I used to love American Girl dolls when I was growing up. I am so glad that these are still around for girls to still enjoy today.

Becca,
I agree! I love the stories behind the dolls. It’s great for young girls to relate to some of the challenges they go through and personality traits they have. I am also glad they are still around.
