Meet The Great Turkey Trot Challenge, a ridiculously easy Thanksgiving party game that gets kids, teenagers, parents, grandparents, and that one uncle who takes EVERY game way too seriously up and moving.
The best part? You don’t need an elaborate setup or hours of prep.
This is one of those funny Thanksgiving games for kids and adults that works for a family Thanksgiving, classroom party, Friendsgiving, church gathering, or Thanksgiving party.
And yes, grown adults waddling across the room like panicked turkeys is every bit as entertaining as you’re imagining.
What Is the Great Turkey Trot Challenge?
The goal is simple:
Players have to make it from the starting line to the finish line while carrying their “turkey feathers” without dropping them.
Except there’s a catch.
Nobody gets to use their hands.
Give each player several colorful craft feathers and have them carry the feathers using a designated body part or silly movement.
For example:
Round 1: Hold a feather under your chin.
Round 2: Balance a feather on your head.
Round 3: Hold a feather between your knees and TURKEY WADDLE.
Round 4: Balance a feather on your shoulder.
Round 5: Put a feather on the back of your hand and race without grabbing it.
Drop your feather?
GOBBLE GOBBLE.
Back to the starting line you go. 😂
What You’ll Need
This Thanksgiving game is wonderfully low-maintenance.
You’ll need:
- Colorful craft feathers
- Painter’s tape for start and finish lines
- Two baskets or bowls
- A timer
- A little bit of competitive spirit
- Absolutely no dignity

I like using a larger pack because you can give every player several feathers and reuse them for other Thanksgiving games and crafts.
How to Play This Funny Thanksgiving Game
First, use painter’s tape to create a starting line and finish line.
Place your finish line roughly 10 to 15 feet away. If you’re playing with younger children, shorten the distance.
Divide everyone into two teams.
Put the feathers in baskets near the starting line.
When you yell:
“READY… SET… GOBBLE!”
the first players begin the challenge.
They have to travel to the finish line and back while keeping their feather in the correct position.
If the feather falls, they return to the starting line and try again.
Once they make it back successfully, the next player goes.
The first team to get everyone through the challenge wins.
Simple?
Yes.
Calm?
Absolutely not.
Make It Even Funnier With Turkey Challenge Cards
This is where you can turn one simple game into something everyone wants to play again.
Write different challenges on index cards and have each player draw one before their turn.
Try:
THE TURKEY WADDLE
Feather between your knees.
THE FANCY TURKEY
Balance the feather on your head.
THE SLEEPY TURKEY
Carry the feather on your shoulder.
THE CONFUSED TURKEY
Walk backward while balancing the feather on your hand.
THE DRAMATIC TURKEY
Complete the challenge while gobbling the ENTIRE time.
THE SNEAKY TURKEY
Tiptoe across the course without dropping your feather.
THE WILD TURKEY
The other team chooses how you carry your feather.
Personally, I’m voting for The Dramatic Turkey.
Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like watching Grandma speed-waddle across the living room yelling GOBBLE GOBBLE while everyone loses it. 😂
Thanksgiving Turkey Trot for Younger Kids
Playing with preschoolers or younger elementary kids?
Skip the racing portion.
Let each child pick a Turkey Challenge Card and simply try to make it across the room without dropping the feather.
You can also shorten the course and let everyone keep trying until they complete it.
For little kids, I’d focus less on winners and more on seeing who can make the funniest turkey.
Make It Harder for Teenagers and Adults
Oh, you thought the adults were getting off easy?
Nope.
Make the course longer and add obstacles.
Players might have to:
- Step over pillows
- Walk around a chair
- Duck underneath streamers
- Spin around three times
- Stop halfway and gobble five times
- Walk backward for part of the course
You can even create a miniature Thanksgiving obstacle course.
Want to make the course extra ridiculous? Grab some small plastic cones here!
Set them up in a zigzag pattern and make everyone turkey-waddle through them.
The adults will suddenly become VERY invested in winning a game involving fake feathers.
As they should.
Try the One-Minute Turkey Trot
Need a quick Thanksgiving Minute-to-Win-It game?
Set a timer for 60 seconds.
Players must successfully complete as many Turkey Trot trips as possible before time runs out.
One successful trip = one point.
Drop your feather and that trip doesn’t count.
The player with the most points wins.
This variation is especially good for larger Thanksgiving parties because people can rotate through quickly.
Turn It Into a Thanksgiving Family Tournament
If your family LOVES games, don’t stop with one.
Make the Turkey Trot Challenge one event in your own Thanksgiving Family Olympics.
