Grandpa’s Cheesebarn Ohio Stop
On our way to Columbus, Ohio we seen signs for Grandpa’s Cheesebarn. It sounded really interesting to us and we wanted to stop a couple of other times on our way through but didn’t have the chance. This time we stopped through and it was in late December. The place was a little busier than I anticipated but not over whelming to move around. When we came up to the establishment it looked like this…
A little bit about the Grandpa’s Cheesebarn:
Grandpa Yarman began his adventure in the early 1900’s unfortunately he got sick and his store fell on hard times. It was then that his daughter and son-in-law now the founders of Grandpa’s Cheesebarn made Grandpa Yarman’s dream a reality. Grandpa Baum searched for cheese makers in the state of Ohio and found all sorts of cheeses to put in their store. It is now a third generation family owned business and well-known to many locals and tourists. As a matter of fact Hillary Clinton even stopped by unexpected while on her campaign trail in August 2016.
We walked into the Cheesebarn part first. When we first walked in there were about 8-10 people towards the front so it was a little hard to walk though at first but we still had a welcoming smile from one of the girls at the counter. That was really nice. Also, our youngest daughter had to use the restroom and we were looking for the signs and another employee told us how to get to the restrooms. Unfortunately, the bathroom was closed for cleaning on the bottom floor but they weren’t that hard to find on the top floor.
I was highly impressed with how many items they had and how clean and nice everything looked.
Wow! What a great food selection they have there.
We enjoyed sampling the jams, cheeses, pickles, and peanut butter marshmallow dip. That was an interesting taste. It was a little sweet but something that the kids wouldn’t stop asking to try. 😛 I think it depends on your tastebuds but I would try it again. 🙂
This one was called F.R.O.G Jam. 😯 ⇐LOL that was literally my expression. 😉
Our Pastor at our church loves Frogs and this jam did make me think of her. 🙂 My husband is also really big with trying unique-weird sounding foods, lol so I knew he would try this. He thought it was pretty good.
There were a lot of samples of cheese but my favorite was the smoked provolone. It had such a good taste. We should have taken enough home with us to last for the next 3 months until we had a chance to make it back there again. 😀
On the way out of the Cheesebarn we spotted The Grinch popcorn. This looked festive and delicious. We lucked out because they had a small thing of samples left to try. It tasted like popcorn but with a sweet flavor to it. It was pretty good and the kids liked it a lot.
Next, we headed over to the Sweet Shop part of Grandpa’s Cheesebarn. When we walked in the door it smelled delicious. The staff behind the counter was very warm and friendly and after we spotted the Candy Cane Peppermint Fudge (we didn’t see samples) but we asked and the woman working behind the counter was very nice and let us try a piece and even offered to let us try another kind. All five of us tried it and 2 out of 5 of us thought it was too sweet. The other three wanted to take the whole sheet of it home. :0)
Next, we were looking around the Sweet Shop and were trying to find a unique gift for Christmas gift ideas.
We spotted a lot of delicious treats but this one was our favorite. Ohio is famous for our Buckeye’s and how cool is it that they created a Ohio State Buckeye Pizza. I believe the price on this was $12.99. This was a really creative and unique gift idea.
To finish out our trip to Grandpa’s Cheese barn… We went outside and found their photo prop for photo opportunities. This was a cute souvenir to have of the kids and they each enjoyed picking a spot to take the picture. I think if the sun wasn’t so bright it may have turned out a little better but they still look like cute little mice. 🙂 🙂 🙂
