Celebrate this Memorial Day weekend or 4th of July with patriotic games for kids or adults that could be played outside during a BBQ or inside if it’s rainy. Find ways to play free classic games with a twist, affordable or free games, and games for large groups.
Free Patriotic Games for Kids or Adults
Simon Says: Put a Memorial Day twist on the classic game Simon Says. Each player will need to look for items that are patriotic or associated with Memorial Day. A flag, something red, white, and blue, BBQ grill, military-themed license plates, or there are many other ideas.
Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt with a Memorial Day theme. Each player will need to find items with a patriotic theme or something that is associated with Memorial Day weekend. The items you could include for your Scavenger hunt could include red or blue napkins, a flag, a sparkler, popsicle, patriotic themed balloon, BBQ, Corn on the Cob, pinwheel, plastic utensils, any military-themed items.
Hot Potato: Instead of using a classic potato try using an item like a patriotically themed ball. For example, this ball here would be perfect for playing a patriotic themed Hot Potato.
If you are on a budget and looking for inexpensive ways to play games. I would go with one of the following choices:
You could also play this practically free game of counting the bottle caps. Let me show you how easy it is to create.
This Guess How Many Bottle Caps game puts a spin on the classic game “How Many Candies in a Jar.” This game will be fantastic for a birthday party, an easy camping game, or for another special event.
Just by looking at this jar can you figure out how many coke bottle caps are inside? See. It’s fun to start counting and trying to figure out the amount. This game tends to captivate kids. It also makes for such a fun way to guess and win a prize. Find out more about this game here!
Tip: Another way to play for adults is by using leftover Beer Bottle Caps instead of coke caps.

Baseball game: A perfectly good all American baseball game will be perfect to play. This idea is enjoyable for all guests, especially in large groups.
Ask each guest that comes to the BBQ, Picnic, or Party to bring their own baseball equipment. This will make it affordable or even free. Woot!
Balloon Pop: You will need to purchase balloons but you can get them relatively cheap here! Give each player the opportunity to pop a balloon. You could choose to have water in them or not.
In only one of the balloons add a note that says, “You win!” Look out because this player will be so excited to win a prize.
Patriotic Dodge Ball: Okay this one is one of my favorite games! What you will need to do is use the rest of the leftover red white and blue balloons and fill them up with water. Make two teams and have each player race to the line to grab a water balloon.
Like traditional dodgeball, the team which ends up with the last player remaining who has not been hit by a water balloon will be the winning team.
Well on that note… I am going to head off of here because I am going to go challenge my children to a water balloon dodgeball game, lol. Let’s see who wins! 😎 Have a fantastic summer!
