In fact, I will let you in on a little secret even Santa Claus and his elves enjoy playing this game too.
What you will need
A Red Shirt (Find a Youth Size here and Adult Size here!)
Candy Canes
Tape (This Tape worked the best for me!)
Christmas Games for Kids
You are probably wondering, “What is Candy Cane Snag?” I created this game last year when my kids were bored.
All I had was a leftover red t-shirt.
A box of candy canes and three little kids that needed to find something fun to do. LOL.
That is when we put together a T-shirt candy cane pinata!
Easy Candy Cane Game DIY
First, you will need to put together the t-shirt.
It is very easy!
We used a plain red shirt.
However, if you are just throwing this together on a whim? You could literally use any old t-shirt you have lying around.
The kiddos won’t care. 🙂
But… if you are putting it together for a Christmas party at school or a family Christmas party?
Perhaps you could still use an old shirt, however, you may want it to be a little more festive.
For example, you could use one of the following ideas for a more festive atmosphere.
- Green Shirt/Sweatshirt
- Red Shirt/Sweatshirt
- Ugly Christmas Sweater
- Holiday Shirt
- Recycle T-shirt
As well as the candy canes could be traditional peppermint candy canes or… for some added fun try one of these favorites!

This tape held very well for me!
In fact, it held so well that the candy canes stayed in place the whole time my daughter ran around the yard.
As well as worked perfectly for snatching the candycanes!
For example, while my other children chased her to capture the candy canes.
I placed candy canes on the front and the back of the t-shirt.
As you can tell.. they had a lot of fun!
Holiday Game Rules
Now for the rules. Have you ever played the classic game Tag?
Just in case, if you are unfamiliar with Tag. What you will need to do is gather a group of players.
There is one designated player that is “it” and that person will need to run around the yard or gym and tag the other players.
Whoever that particular player is that is “It” will then tag a different player and they will be the new “it.”
This Candy Cane Snag Game is very similar to Tag. Just with a DIY spin!
As a result, there is one player that is “it” the whole time (wearing the candy cane t-shirt) and the other children will need to chase them around and steal all of their candy canes before the timer is up.
Whichever player grabs the most amount of candy canes wins a prize.
If you are playing with a larger group. I highly suggest making more than one shirt.
This game is a lot of fun to play! The children loved it and Adults will, of course, want to take pictures!

I’ve never heard of this game!! I wish we had any family my kiddo’s age so they could play together with someone at the holidays.
