Amazingly, I bring you the White House Easter Egg Roll Tips & Review!
It is surprising but true that my family got to experience the Easter Egg Roll at the White House this year in Washington D.C.
White House Easter Egg Roll Tips & Review
After five or six years of trying to apply for the lottery to attend the famous Egg roll, this year we finally got to join in the fun.
Thank you to Recreation.Gov for accepting our application and allowing us to be a part of such a special day!
Now, are you ready to learn how to apply for the Egg hunt at the White House?
First, we drove from Ohio to Washington DC.
With that said, people from out-of-state will be able to attend too!
Luckily for us, my brother lives there (which gave us free lodging, lol).
When I applied, I picked the most inconvenient time I felt that most people would not want to attend first.
That was group A and gates opened at 6:45.
At first, my husband and I planned for our family to be at the Easter Egg Roll an hour early but I am so glad we didn’t arrive that early.
In fact, it would have driven us bored standing in line and I know my kids would have needed to pee!
Needless to say, arriving early would not have benefited us.
Also, there are plenty of porta-potties outside the event as well as bathroom trailers inside.
The lines weren’t too terribly long for the bathrooms in group A.
After you get through security, you’ll proceed to line up.
There were about 12 lines.
I highly suggest picking the first line all the way to the right.
Volunteers opened that line first!
People must have known it was the line picked first because it was a VERY long line so the rest of us all had to wait for a while.
To be honest, I think more people were coming into that line as they were walking in and got to proceed into the egg hunt before the rest of us waiting.
Which in my opinion got frustrating for those that have waited longer.
However, if we go back again I would definitely still pick that first line.
After the first line, they proceeded with two more lines (all the way to the right) and then start allowing the guests on the opposite side (left side) to proceed.
I think the worst place to stand would be in the middle.
Luckily, our line was let in 5th out of 12.
Getting technical here, lol.
That line was the third from the left-hand side.
What to Wear for the White House Easter Egg Roll
However, before I jump too far ahead.
I want to fill you in on what to wear to the egg roll at the White House.
If you are anything like me, you’ll probably drive yourself nuts on what to wear to the big event.
In fact, I personally felt that this may be the only chance we get to visit the White House and I didn’t want to miss the Photo Opportunities.
I started thinking and shopping early.
In conclusion, my family dressed up.
My daughters wore matching dresses (with sparkly tennis shoes) and my son wore a red, white, and blue button-up shirt with jeans and tennis shoes.
My husband wore a polo and jeans.
For myself, I wore a dressy white top with sheer, gray dress pants, and comfortable flat dress shoes.
Tennis shoes are important!
Me personally, I don’t recommend walking around in heels because 90% of the time you’re in the South Lawn.
As a matter of fact, below you will find a picture of our family at the 2019 Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
Festivities at the Egg Roll in DC
There are quite a few events held at the Egg roll in DC.
In fact, with this White House Easter Egg Roll Tips & Review, you’ll be able to narrow down which events to do first.
As you arrive inside and finally face to face with the front of the White House it is very exciting!
There is so much to do and if you’re unfamiliar you may be overwhelmed.
Me personally, I highly suggest following the signs for the Egg Roll.
If you don’t see them… ask!
My family started up the lawn towards the white house.
Don’t do that!
The line will continuously grow and it causes a longer wait.
Everyone wants to do the egg roll because it is the BEST photo ops!
This is the right way to go!
Keep straight on the driveway/road you walk in on (the only road to walk on) and it will take you directly to the line for the Egg roll.
If the line looks huge don’t fret!
It will go faster than you think. However, I still recommend doing it first because it is a timed event.
Also, during the egg roll, the kids are rolling boiled eggs (they are not the wooden ones) across the lawn.
During the Egg roll… You’ll want to move to the opposite end of your kiddos rolling the eggs.
The reason I say this is because you’ll get better pictures!
Your kiddos will be rolling the eggs and you’ll get them playing on the President’s lawn with the White House in the background!
FYI SO COOL!
Tip: Volunteers are not allowed to take pictures so if you want those memorable photo opportunities in front of the white house?
Ask a stranger in line.
If you are too nervous, politely ask them if they take one for you.
In return, you’ll be happy to take one for them.
White House Easter Egg Roll Events
Hardboiled eggs are everywhere at the White House Easter egg roll!
Just when you think you are going to get that wooden egg with the President and First Lady’s signature.
You don’t! Just wait… keep reading and I’ll share with you when you can expect to get it.
Photo Ops are everywhere! Easter bunny, George Washington Mascots, Egg Characters, and the podium and President Trumps Limo are just amongst some of the areas.
Tip: Bring sunglasses with you and have your child cross their arms at the podium photo-op!
I took one with my daughter smiling and then also one with a fun twist.
Doesn’t she look like part of the secret service or the future president of the United States?!
In another area, you have places to take pictures with the wooden eggs and golden egg!
Amongst the #eastereggroll2019 (or year) sign.
Also, held at this special event is the Marine Corps Band.
As well as an Easter Egg Hunt, Reading Nook, and the Eggpops!
Egg Pops at the White House
Egg pop at the White House?!
Yes, it’s true! There are egg pops on a stick.
You know that saying, “When in Rome?!” LOL.
Of course, my family and I wanted to try the egg pops.
It’s a boiled egg on a stick.
That’s not all!
A whole egg pop station is created with different sauces to try.
Egg pop sauces included Chipotle, Ranch, and Honey Mustard.
It was a neat rendition.
We all enjoyed the eggs a lot!
Also, included at the station were drinks like juice, juice boxes, iced tea, and water.
NO coffee! Darn, LOL!
Wrapping Up
Since it was our first year at the White House Easter Egg roll we didn’t know when we would receive the wooden egg!
Of course, we didn’t want to miss out!
No worries, you’ll get it.
It just comes at the very end when you exit and each one of your children will receive one.
There is also an opportunity for the kids to send the free postcard they receive in the presidential bag.
The presidential bag will be given to them when they first enter the event.
Here is a picture of my daughter sending her postcard.
Lastly, if you are going specifically to see the President you’ll want to try for the Group B time slot.
At least, that is the group President Trump and the First Lady came out to speak to this year.
However, any time you pick. Adventure awaits at the White House!
Good Luck! I hope you get the chance to visit!
