How To Start A Blog
You are only a few steps away from making one of the best decisions of your life. Let me share with you how simple and affordable it is to start your very own blog.
First, I began a blog to try to make an income as a stay home mom. I knew of other bloggers that had success and I felt that if they could make money blogging about something they were passionate about so could I. Guess what?! I was right.
When I first started off blogging I thought I wanted to blog about deals. It was something I really enjoyed (shopping/saving money) but the more I started to blog about those things the less interested I became to write about them. That's when I had to really focus on the most important things I wanted to give my readers. I wanted to give them tips, tricks, and helpful information on how to make life more interesting, memorable and fun. I also wanted to do something that helped make a difference in someone's life. That is when I started GetYourHolidayOn.com.
How To Start A Blog
The best part about blogging is that there are so many topics that you can write about. Some of those ideas include:
• Dieting/Weight Loss Journey
• Personal Finance
• Home improvement
• Everyday Life
Two Big Decisions for Your Blog
Two of the biggest decisions for your blog will be your hosting and domain name. When I was considering what company to use. I researched what the top bloggers were using and what they recommended and it was bluehost. That's when I knew Bluehost had to be a legit company. Bluehost is the hosting company I use now for my blog and personally I have found Bluehost to be extremely reliable and a trustworthy company to work with.
Here are more reasons why I really like Bluehost for a self-hosted website:
• Bluehost gives you easy to follow step by step tutorials on how to get set up and running.
• Free Technical support! Important for a new blogger!
• A self-hosted blog allows more freedom to monetize your blog.
• WordPress is FREE through Bluehost.
Pick Your Plan!
Most bloggers use the basic hosting (that is the one I use too) If you decide to upgrade later that is always an option.
Choose Your Plan
To get the best bang for your buck you may want to choose the 36 month plan (this is the one I picked!) This plan is the most beneficial because you don't have to worry about renewing your blog every year and it will save you money! If you're unsure about signing up for 36 months don't worry they offer a 12 month and 24 month plan as well.
Select Your Domain Name
I remember when I selected my domain name. I was so excited to put it into the browser I called my husband over to show him, then we brought it up on his computer, my kids brought it up on their tablets, I called my mom on the phone, I texted my best friend, and Facetimed my brother, lol. I couldn't believe it was finally real. It was my very own domain. I felt like I was on my way!
When you're considering your blog domain name you will want it to relate to your niche. For example, if you had a deal website and want to write about your family. You may want to choose something like themomdeal.com. Another idea for bloggers is to use their own names because that allows them to write about anything on their website.
When you go through my link, Bluehost will give you the domain name for free for 1 year when you sign up with a 12 month hosting plan. This is a fantastic offer and perfect for getting started with your new website!
Yay! Congratulations, once you have completed check out (woot woot!) I'm so excited for you!!! You will install WordPress. Don't worry it's SUPER easy! 😉 🙂 Bluehost helps you every step of the way and does most of the work for you.
In Bluehost, click on the hosting tab and then the cpanel tab. Scroll down and select Install WordPress.
Now you will connect both WordPress and Bluehost together!
This is a fantastic feature that Bluehost provides you with for free and is really easy for new bloggers to set up. Enter your domain name into the space and click ‘log into WordPress' and everything will be installed for you! (Yay!)
This will give you a preview of what it will look like.
After everything has been connected, you will go to your WordPress page. Yay!
That's it! Congratulations you are now ready to start your blog! I wish you the best of luck! 🙂
